Thoughts, details about what we're doing, general music stuff.
Well, here we are again, gearing up for what may be for some 5th graders their LAST SHOW EVER! I chose to have them go out with a bang, by using a musical that connects the six pillars of Character Counts to Beatles songs. This should be a very good show; it has a great positive message and very exciting, music-wise. Let's Talk Costumes!!! I said I would post images and ideas about dressing up in Beatles/60's costumes here. So here it is, a slideshow with some pictures/ideas:

The 5th graders are working hard this week on memorization, and also we've started my favorite part of the musical performance process: choreography. This is where they help me make up moves to go with their songs. Sometimes we use pre-planned moves that came with the script, other times I dislike the ideas in the script and I choose to make something else up. I enlist the help of the students, who usually have a ton of creative ideas, to add to the dance/movement piece. Today I had Mrs. Carbine's class studying short videos of Mick Jagger to get an idea of what true "swagger" is. (I love my job!!) We also watched a short clip of Angus Young performing the 'duck walk' with his guitar. To be the first person to introduce these great legends of music to them, is such a pleasure in my life!
